Model and businesswoman Meriam Kaxuxwena gets her nomination for ‘Beauty Queen of the Year’ at the Katutura Fashion Week.
This year’s theme is ‘Uniting cultures through fashion and bringing fashion to the people.”
She is nominated alongside Minsozi Kompell, Stephanie Tsuos, Ndilyowika Halpinge, and Rollinia Shahungu.
The Katutura Fashion Week awards will take place from the 26th to the 28th of September at the National Independence Memorial Museum, Windhoek.
Model and founder of the Katutura Fashion Week, Dennis Hendricks says they have teamed up with international fashion organisations such as Gherushcat Beauty and Fashion as well as Ammiratus Review as hosts of the event. This is intended to shake up the local fashion market.
Dennis spoke to New Era Live on how he is opening up the fashion industry for young designers to showcase their talents and the disadvantaged group of designers to take advantage of the opportunities that will open up at the fashion show.
Models that will be strutting the runway will be from all over the country and will be presented with the opportunity to be scouted by 70 international designers that will be present at the fashion show.
One of Namibia’s most talked about public figures Meriam, has been making waves in the modelling industry both locally and internationally. She started modelling at a very young age and fell in love with it. From entering beauty pageants at the age of 10, to winning numerous competitions in high school. Now the melanin beaut is gracing the international catwalks and making a name for herself.
“Nothing but 100% dedication is what brought me here.” Says the long-legged model.
The model is currently hitting the gym and getting her body in shape for a fashion show in Mexico and has hinted at other shows lined up for the rest of this year.
She has won numerous awards such as Best Catwalk model and Best complexion at the World Bikini Model International pageant in China. She also took part at the Miss Tourism Universe in Lebanon and won as Miss Africa. She is hoping this award will add to her accolades.
The young model will not stop until she reaches the pinnacles she is planning to reach and her hard work ethic will allow her to achieve that.
Entrance fee to the fashion show is N$200 and tickets are available at Webtickets.
