He has big shoes to fill when he takes over the 'Breakfast Express' which used to be the Cup of Java microphone but Mathew Kapofi aka Mappz is not your ordinary radio presenter and has already made a name for himself as radio producer, TV host, singer and songwriter, entrepreneur and most wanted Emcee.
Nalebrity caught up with the man himself this weekend to shed more light on his 15-year career which he has kicked off with a gig at Unam Radio in 2007 and the new things he plans for the Breakfast Express Crew, which airs Mondays and Fridays between 7:00 and 9:00 on NBC national radio station on 92.6.
“I was always fascinated by way the radio presenters spoke on radio, interviewed a lot of famous people and play the latest music to the listeners. So as I was working on my music, I wanted to incorporate that as well, not knowing how far the two were going to take me,” Mapps relates.
He soon moved on to 99FM where he entertained and mesmerised listeners on the Breakfast Show with Che and well as the late afternoon show Nightfall which aired between 15:00 and 18:00 for six straight years.
“I grew up listening to the Cup a Java Show, much respect to the legends and Rest in Peace to Fanie Lategaan, we will carry on tradition and bring our own flare to National FM,’ he said.
Asked how the public has received the new Cup of Java crew Mappz said: “The reception has been marvelous thus far, we have had good reviews from the public so we will continue doing our best to serve them as best we can and more.”
