Holding a political position has its perks. You get to be famous, have power, influence policy-making, network, build relationships with other prominent people, and of course, make plenty of money.
We have compiled a list of some prominent political figures who have taken advantage of their political positions to make millions. If you are thinking of getting into politics, these people should be your role models.

The founder of Indongo Holdings is one of the richest people in Namibia, with an estimated net worth of around 1.3 billion dollars.
Frans Indongo owns businesses and properties in prominent locations such as Windhoek, Walvis Bay, Swakopmund, and Tsumeb and controls many businesses in Namibia through his Indongo Group of Companies.
But aside from his career as a successful businessman, did you know that Indongo is a former politician too?
He began his political career in the 1970s as a member of the Democratic Turnhalle Alliance party, formally known as the National Democratic Party.
He was a delegate for Ovamboland and served as Minister of Economic Affairs in the Owambo legislative before retiring from politics to manage his businesses.
While he got most of his wealth from his businesses, we think that power had a hand in helping him establish his business, but we may be wrong.

Dr. Sam Nujoma is the founding father of Namibia and the first president- a position that he served between 1990 to 2005.
The retired president had a very colourful career marked with lots of awards, including the Lenin Peace Prize, Africa Prize for Leadership for the Sustainable End of Hunger, and Lifetime Conservation Award, just to name a few, and he has been awarded over ten honorary doctorates.
Besides his career as a politician, Sam Nujoma is also a writer, having published his autobiography in 2005, titled Where Others Wavered.
His net worth is currently estimated at N$ 50 million, and it’s mostly accumulated from his political career and royalties from his autobiography.

Although not exactly a politician, Monica Geingos holds the position of First Lady of Namibia and is married to the most powerful political figure in the country.
Monica Geingos is one of the richest women in Namibia. Together with her husband, they declared their total wealth to be around $111 million in 2015, with Monica having the lion's share of the total net worth.
Monica, who holds two law degrees, has worked in the Namibia Stock Exchange and has held several lucrative positions in the country, including chairman of the ebank of Namibia.
Along with her assets, Monica Geingos earns a salary of between N$350 000 and N$400 000 per year.

President Hage Geingob
President Hage Geingob has had a long political career spanning over 40 years.
Between 1990 and 2002, Hage served as the first Prime Minister of Namibia, a position that he held again between 2012 to 2015 before assuming the presidential office.
He has previously also served in various spots in the UN, was minister for trade and industry, and is also the incumbent president of SWAPO.
In 2015, shortly after being sworn into office, President Hage Geingob and his wife, Monica Geingos, declared their wealth, becoming the first Namibian president to do so. His net worth at the time was estimated at N$51 million.
Some of his investments include tracts of land, livestock, and buildings in both Namibia and the USA.

Hifikepunye Pohamba was the second president of Namibia from 2005 to 2015. Before that, he served in various ministerial positions, including Minister of Home Affairs, Minister without Portfolio, Minister of Fisheries, Minister of Lands, and Minister of Resettlement and Rehabilitation.
His net worth is estimated at $10 million, most of which he earned through his successful political career.
Among his listed property is a farm in Guinaspoh #41 near Otavi.
