Without a visa but with flow, clarity and well-engineered lyrics from Ongwediva, Sunny Boy’s music has travelled through borders and surely left a mark on African Hip-Hop.

Described by many as the king of Hikwa- a mixture of Hip-Hop and Kwaito, the celebrated rapper has been able to maintain relevance in the music scene for over a decade, a fate that many find hard to achieve.

The building of such a star, however, comes with ups and downs that turn heads every so often and once in a while give the world topics for discussions and gossip.

Sunny Boy Cheating Scandal


In a now seemingly tumultuous relationship, Sunny Boy and his baby mama Janine Nelaolange Iyambo, have hit the headlines severally following a series of rumored break-ups and reunions fueled by cheating allegations.

One such breakup came in early 2020 just when the couple was about to tie the Knot and was then reversed the same year when Iyambo posted a picture of a shirtless Sunny Boy alongside her and their two children in bed.

The rapper has in more than one occasion been accused of having a number of different side chicks, allegations that were occasionally supported by screenshots shared on social media, leaked nudes with side chicks and incriminating WhatsApp conversations with other women.

Severally, it had been alleged that the rapper had been chased away from Nelaolange’s place, attracting the feeling of disappointment from fans towards sunny boy.


Sunny Boy Real Name


The Hip-Hop and Kwaito superstar attributes his stage name to his real name, he says the first name ‘Sunny’ is actually short form for his real name ‘Sunday’ and was coined by his mom who always called him sunny. The name on his national identity card is Sunday Shipushu.

Sunny Boy Age 


The 38-year-old, Uuyelele hitmaker was born on Sunday, 13 March 1983 in Oshakati, a town in the Oshana Region of Namibia and was raised by his mother in Ongwediva.

Sunny Boy Career


Sunny Boy Started his music career in High school as a part of a group called Converse Boys.

Later, his love for both Hip-Hop and Kwaito made him combine the two to create something unique a decision which was inspired by South African artist HHP, who mixed Hip-Hop and Pantsula.

It was in 2004 when he collaborated with Gazza on his Song Koko that he got his big break, the two had met while studying at the University of Namibia and became friends.

He used to be a back-up vocalist for Gazza and King Tee Dee, another Namibian star.

The rap star has seven music albums. In 2005 he recorded Balance, his hit single under Mshasho Productions and in the same year he also released his first album Young, Black en Gifted.



In 2006, he released his second album, Elai Lineendunge. The album was nominated at the 2007 Sanlam-NBC Music Awards, and the video of Summertime song from the album was nominated for the 2008 Channel O Music Video Awards for Best Kwaito Video.

His third album The Sleeping Giant was released in 2008 and the song Heat It Up won Song of the Year at the 2009 Sanlam-NBC Music Awards.

He released Business and Pleasure album in 2012. PASS - Pendukeni Andreas Sunday Shipushu was released in 2013.

In 2018 he released the single Stealing My Heart. He featured Patrick from PDK (A Namibian Kwaito Trio) on the song. 

His latest album is Uuyelele which he released in 2019. He launched it at Moonrise Bar and Restaurant at Rundu. The album has 18 songs and was produced by Glo Production.

His second single Young, Wild and Free, was released in 2019. The song was well-received and became an instant hit.

Sunny Boy is not only a talented rapper, but he is also a brilliant actor. He says acting is his second love after music.
 
 The Young, Wild and Free hitmaker has been a part of two local movies - Captain Kalola 2 and This Is Windhoek.

In August 2021, he announced that a new album was in the making and was almost complete.
 

 Sunny Boy Collaborations


Sunny Boy has worked with some of Namibia's top artists. For his latest album Uuyelele, he featured local artists - King Tee Dee, Exit and Desmond.

Sunny Boy featured King Tee Dee and Tate Buti on the song Permanent which he released in 2019.


He also featured Young T & Exit on his hit song Trials & Tribulations

On Valentine's Day, he released the song Wish which features Desmond. 

Sunny Boy Philanthropy


Sunny Boy is an activist against gender-based violence and abuse against children. He partnered with NAMDIA Foundation as an ambassador against women and children abuse.

In 2014, he took part in the ‘Walk A Mile In Her Shoe’ campaign - The International men's march to stop rape, sexual assault and gender violence. 

Sunny Boy Controversy


Although Gazza gave Sunny Boy his big break in the music industry by featuring him on his song Koko, Sunny Boy refused to be signed under his record label. 

He chose to sign under  King Tee Dee's Mshasho Productions. This caused friction between himself and Gazza and seemed like a betrayal. But, the two giants have managed to put their differences aside and are now on good terms. 

The Hikwa star left King Tee Dee's Mshasho Production to form his own record label - Green House Entertainment which he later renamed to Yaziza Entertainment in 2008. 

Sunny Boy Clothing Brand


Just like many other musicians who like to mix music and fashion, Sunny Boy has his own clothing brand.

The brand, Hikwa Culture, caters for the young who like funky clothes. It produces active wear like T-shirt and pants.


Sunny Boy Fiancée


Despite all the controversy, Sunny Boy's fiance is the beautiful Kandali, aka Janine Nelao, who also happens to be his baby mama. 

He proposed to his baby mama at the Final Concert of King Tee Dee in Unam Stadium in 2018.

Sunny Boy is a family man and totally adores his children. The star is a father of three - two baby girls and a baby boy. He often poses with his children.
