Live performer and vocalist Slickartie is making a name for himself within the music industry with his 'Sunday Service' event happening at The Garden Inn every Sunday.

Self-taught Zimbabwean singer, songwriter and percussionist Slickartie aims to magnify the culture of live performing in Namibia through inviting different vocalists to perform at his event.

"The idea was to create something different on a Sunday and also to create opportunities for new upcoming artists to come in as my guests and introduce them to a different audience," he said.

With the industry dominated by back track performers, this is definitely a good move in the right direction to inspire and boost live performing musicians.

The vibrant collaborative performer is no stranger to the game, he was a lead vocalist of Savannah Afros and the Afrolove band and has also worked with various artists, such as Evans Mapfumo, Pah Chihera and Blavance in Zimbabwe as well as Elemotho and Daena Weeks in Namibia, as a backing vocalist.

With experience close to a decade, he fuses genres with Afro-soul harmonies to produce an eccentric sensational vibe.

Questioned on the current status of the industry and how it feels to be a live performing artist, Slickartie said, vocalists are slowly but surely coming out of their shells.

"Being a live performer is very interesting because you bound to have a different crowd compared to everyone else in the industry but it is a great, great experience," he said.

For the love of art, the singer is currently doing his final year at the College Of The Arts, majoring in performing art.
