During the launch for Miss Namibia pageant 2023, Conny made the announcement. She has passed the baton to Umbi who will be the new national director for Miss Namibia Organisation.
The Namibian quotes Conny as she said: “I cannot be more confident to be handing over the reins to the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), and on a more personal level, the national directorship to Umbi Karuhaie-Upi. She has already demonstrated her organisational skills, abilities and acumen during the most recent pageant.
“While I may still be available in the background to smooth the transition when required, I have the greatest measure of confidence, not only that the NBC's takeover will be good for the Miss Namibia Organisation, but also that the organisation will be good for the NBC,” said the former Miss Namibia title holder herself.
Conny recognised the organisation for its exceptional work in getting the youth engaged in societal, beauty as well as educational aspects. She even thanked past participants and all the people involved in making the organisation a success that it is.
“I would like to thank each one of them for the grace with which they have worn the Miss Namibia/Miss Teen Namibia crown, for the distinction and pride they brought our country internationally, for their virtuous work in our communities, and for the beneficial difference they have made in the lives of so many Namibians,” she said.
She also recognised the president, “They are too many to mention by name ... I wish to recognise president Hage Geingob ... who has honoured us to become the first patron of the organisation long before he was called to the high office of the president of Namibia.
“A special thank you goes to the current patron, Michelle McLean. She was one of the first intake of models that I trained at Extravaganza Models and who, when bearing the crown as Miss Namibia, brought so much national pride to the country when she also became Miss Universe 1992. I also recognise Nic Kruger, my predecessor, who helped to grow the organisation . . ,” she said.

The incoming director, Umbi Karuaihe-Upi expressed gratitude, “Who would have thought that a girl from the Nama location would be here today. I am passionate about the industry. I was a model. I have also participated in some pageants. This is my Oscar moment. It is one of the best moments in my life.
“I will carry this job with the dignity it deserves. I will take this role very seriously. Maritz is one of the most beautiful and kindest people I know. She has nurtured Miss Namibia into what it is today, and therefore everyone wants to be part of the pageant,” Karuaihe-Upi said.
