Lioness is a force to be reckoned with. The rapper and medical doctor has won the hearts of many with her dope raps, entertaining music videos and just her drama-free career, not to forget her down-to-earth personality which is like the icing on the cake.
The rapper is currently enjoying all of her wins with her latest project Dance And Dance shaking up the streets. Her EP has people raving about her undeniable talent.
She has been promoting it on all platforms especially her new music video for her song Bring Em Ova featuring Tamy Moyo.
She recently had an interview with Jet Club where she spoke about her journey with music and how she made it this far.
Lioness describes herself as someone who is dynamic and mentioned how all her sides complement each other. The award-winning star told the publication that, "Lioness embodies both sides of my personal self and my rap art."
Shen then mentioned how it is like to be a doctor and a rapper saying she has been making music her whole life but also uses her music to make her career as a doctor better.
She mentioned how challenging the journey was for her, especially being a woman in the music industry.
"Being a woman in the music industry itself is just a struggle. You can dance and perform [for your life], but the award will go to the men – especially in rap music as it was previously dominated by men.
"It’s very hard as a woman to be seen as equally good or be considered equally as good. Similarly, being a woman in medicine, a woman in a previously male-dominated industry. Men obviously think they’re better and even the patients prefer to be treated by a man as opposed to a woman. And so, those really were the struggles that were similar in two different professions."
Which takes us back to her previous interview with a London based entertainment company called Generation W on Twitter spaces. Lioness never shies away to speak about her childhood as it shaped her into being the artist that she is - and well, her name too.
"Lioness is sort of like a nickname, it started off as a nickname. And I always had like really big hair when I was growing up and everybody used to call me little lion. So it really just was something that stuck.
"At first when I started doing music I was not 100% committed because I did not know where it was going to go. Coming from Namibia which is such a small country, I was like what are the odds that it would stick. So I just took my nickname and I continued with it and as soon as I started I was like I am going to give it up or change my name but then it started gaining a little bit of traction, so I was like 'oops'," she laughed.
