DJ Castro whose real name is Uakengeza Ngoinue was born on 23 October in Windhoek, Namibia. He was close to his grandfather whom he lost in 2020. In a social media post, he expressed his sadness and said he’s never been the same since.
DJ Castro had a rude welcome into the Namibian music industry. As a young, up and coming artist, his work was stolen by unidentified individuals, an occurrence that’s opened his eyes and made him realise that not everybody supports him.
As a result, he says he doesn’t trust anyone, doesn’t sample his songs for everyone and keeps copies of his work. The good thing is that this did not derail his ambition of making it in the music industry. In 2019, DJ Castro released his first album dubbed Evolution which carries 13 tracks.
With this album, DJ Castro took a different approach as he composed it with a different sound - Kwaito, Afropop and soulful house music, a departure from his usual house music. He features artists like Sunny Boy, Sally Boss Madam, Lioness, Jermain Casper and Etjo in the album.
Those aren’t the only collaborations he’s landed. DJ Castro has gone international and worked with South African artist Nokwazi. He’s also worked with Don Makati in the song Pretty Young Thing (PYT).
With a debut album out of his way, DJ Castro is already working on an extended play in which he wants to collaborate with more international artists.
DJ Castro does not rely on music alone to make his money and thus he began a business. He operates a food truck dubbed Castro Munchies that he started in 2020.
He has also managed to get endorsement deals with brands like Coke Energy and Standard Bank
DJ Castro broke up with social media influencer girlfriend Sendry. In a social media post, he let his followers know that the two were no longer an item but did not disclose the reason for their split.
Dj Castro has a daughter named Tahira. He doesn’t pass out any chance he gets to celebrate her or express his affection towards her. That said, DJ Castro’s baby mama is unknown.
Dj Castro found himself on the receiving end after he posted a picture on Twitter in which he paired his outfit with a handbag. His critics accused him of wearing a feminine look. In his defence, DJ Castro argued that international celebs do the same and people don’t make a big deal out of it.
Further, he slammed his critics and opined that people have different fashion tastes which everyone is not going to like.
In 2020, DJ Castro, who became the go-to guy for brands looking to promote themselves, landed a deal with Eya Car as their ambassador for rental cars.
To that effect, DJ Castro didn’t have to stress about moving around during his events and appearances as Eya’s Hyundai bus was always waiting on him.
